Neurorestoratology is a sub-discipline of neuroscience which studies neural regeneration, neural structural repair or replacement, neuroplasticity and neuromodulation. The purpose is to promote neural functional reconstruction and recovery of all neural degenerative diseases and damages. According to research object, it divides into peripheral neurorestoratology and central neurorestoratology; according to research field, it divides into basic neurorestoratology and clinical neurorestoratology.

Scope: The research and therapeutic scope of neurorestoratology covers  neurotrauma, neurodegeneration, neuro-anoxemia, demyelination impairments, cerebrovascular sequelae, motor disorders, nerve damages caused by intoxication or physical factors, hereditary and congenital or developmental lesions and other nervous degenerative changes and damages.

Methods: On the basis of previous neuroanatomical structure and function, various kinds of interventions are used to facilitate regeneration and restoration of destroyed or damaged nerve, such as transplantation of tissues or cells, biological and tissue engineering or bioengineering, nerve stimulation or modulation by physical factors such as electromagnetic intervention, pharmaceutical or chemical strategies et al. As a result of the interventions, the anatomical projections and circuits are restored, the conduction of signals improved or modulated, and finally the target of neurorestoratology is reached.

Strategies: Neurorestoratology stresses the close combination and organic integration between basic research and clinical treatments, and insists on always making the direction according to clinical treatment and constantly enriching the content according to basic research. It emphasizes to solve the practical medical and preventive issues.

Status: The effects of structural and functional restoration in peripheral nerves are constantly improving, meanwhile the door of a certain degree of structural and functional restoration in central nerves has been opened and the traditional concept that there is no available therapy or effective methods for central nervous damages has been changed.

Objective: The objective is to best combine the proving effective methods for neural restoration, find more approaches and new methods to enhance the   effectiveness of restoring neural function.

Neurorestoratology had an eventful birth, and then it develops with defeating challenges. In order to make it develop rapidly, as the only international academic organization in this field--International Association of Neurorestoratology (IANR) has been endowed the unavoidable social responsibility, and must shoulder and fulfill the era mission. All the association members should try their best to actively spread the idea of neurorestoratology, brave to explore the new strategies, constantly improve the intervention level, and thus satisfy the patients' expectations.
